William John Woolgar was born at Woolwich on 28 January 1841. He entered the Royal Navy as an Acting Engine Room Artificer on 17 May 1868; attained the rank of C.E.R.A. in January 1881 when on Fly but returned to an E.R.A. in May 1883 when on Alexandra. Shore pensioned in April 1888; sold together with copied research.
