(x) Afghanistan 1878-80, no clasp (1134. Pte. T. Davey. 78th Foot.), edge bruise, very fine

Thomas Davey was born at Dunster, Somerset in 1854 and attested at Taunton on 7 September 1874, noting prior service with the 1st Somerset Militia. Posted initially to the 46th Regiment he was transferred to the 32nd Regiment on 22 April 1875 for service on the Cape of Good Hope between 1875-77. Returning home Davey was still with the 32nd Regiment when he was posted to India in 1879, seeing service in Southern Afghanistan from August 1880 until May 1881.

He transferred to the 78th Regiment in June and was therefore issued a medal named to them rather than the 32nd Regiment with whom he had largely been serving. Davey returned to India with his new unit and served with them there until March 1886 when he was discharged; sold together with copied service papers.
