South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879 (23896. Drivr W. Hedgecock. R.E.), note incorrect first digit of service number, edge bruise, very fine

William Hedgecock was born at Maldon, Essex in 1855 and enlisted with the Royal Engineers at Westminster on 8 May 1977. Posted to 'C' troop, Royal Engineers he was joined the war in South Africa aboard Borussia which sailed to the Cape on 1 April 1979. Serving there until 27 January 1880 he transferred to the Army Reserve on 20 July 1880. Hedgecock was discharged on 8 May 1889; sold together with copied service papers.
