17th Century banking accounts sheet for the 1st Marquess of Normanby, banking accounts page for the Most Honourable the Marquis of Normanby, first entry dated March 1699. This would have thus belonged to John Sheffield, for whom the title Marquess of Normanby was created in 1694 and who was later titled The Duke of Buckingham and Normanby. He was a Tory politician during the Stuart period and served as Lord Privy Seal and Lord President of the Council, in addition to being an author, poet, and a favourite of Queen Anne.
His accounts sheet details transactions with a painter, jewellers, and poulterer, in addition to those relating to a marriage and customs
tape repairs along centre split, discolouration, staining, rounded or missing corners, but paper is overall attractive and readable. Unique opportunity to own a piece of early banking history and that which belonged to a notable Stuart figure
