Trio of 16th-17th Century British Cheques, [3 cheques] 1699, 1700, 1729, all signed R. Jervoise with a red wax seal,
three astonishingly old cheques British cheques, all clear and readable despite age. The oldest cheque in the Bank of England's collection dates from 1660, making the age of these notes even more impressive. These cheques contain no printed material and are fully handwritten.
1st September 1699, instructs Mr. Robert Fowles to pay £20 to Mr. Stephen Thomson;
7th May 1700, instructs Mr. Robert Fowles to pay 5 Pounds 14 Shillings to Mr. Benjamin Powell;
21st December 1729, instructs Benjamin Hoare Esqr. to pay £85 to Mrs. Judith Killigrew. This note also includes the address the Golden Bottle on Fleet Street, which together with the name Hoare identifies the bank in question as C. Hoare in Co., still extant today as the UK's oldest private bank
