Auction: 24038 - The Dr. Martin M Mortazavi Collection of Persian Banknotes
Lot: 36
(x) Bank Melli, Iran, Specimen uncut pair 50 Rials, ND (1932 / AH1311), serial number 00000,
the front of this pair exhibits an olive-green colour with red, blue and green hues within the designs. On the left of the front of each banknote is a portrait of Reza Shah, depicted wearing a Pahlavi hat. Reza Shah was the founder of the Pahlavi dynasty and the Shah of Iran from 1925 to 1941. Next to this portrait is an image of the Chehel Sotoun (Forty Columns) Palace, reflecting in the pool in Isfahan. This palace, when reflecting the 20 columns onto the water, is said to appear as 40 columns. The Chehel Sotoun Palace serves many purposes on Iranian banknotes. More specifically this image reflects Iran's pride in its historical legacy and desire to promote and preserve cultural identity. On the front, a diagonal red specimen stamp appears on each banknote. The back of this superb pair presents an olive-green design, whilst once again featuring Farsi text. The denomination of 50 Rials is shown on all four corners of each banknote within the guilloches design and the coat of arms with the crown, sun, lion and sword is observed in the centre of the back. Both uncut notes have been hole punched on the bottom left of each,
(Pick 21as, BNB 104 for the type), in PMG holder 55 EPQ About Uncirculated, only 1 note in higher grade on PMG Census
