Auction: 24038 - The Dr. Martin M Mortazavi Collection of Persian Banknotes
Lot: 21
(x) Imperial Bank of Persia, 2 Tomans, Bushire, 31st January 1925, serial number B/R 027190,
featuring a green design with orange, blue and red notes as well as Farsi text. English text at the bottom of the front of this banknote states PAYABLE AT BUSHIRE ONLY with the Farsi translation at the top. A circular portrait of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, the longest reigning Qajar monarch, is depicted wearing military uniform and a feathered fez. In addition to this image, on the front of the banknote, a seal stamp showcases black Farsi text and the image of a lion on an oval background. This stamp design replaced the earlier black oval background and white Farsi text and lion in 1913, likely to improve its discernability. The handwritten signatures of Vivian L Walter and James Hamish McMurray appear behind the seal stamp. On the back of the banknote guilloches accompany a red and blue design, and the denomination appears on all four corners. This banknote also includes a watermark of the Persian coat of arms with the Kiani crown, sun, lion and sword,
