1864 "Eagles" Issue
Mexico District No Overprint 3c. Brown on laid paper, unoverprinted and uncancelled, possessing part o.g., large margins all around and sharp impression. The 3c. stamp, produced in 1865-66, served as an experiment for local city mail, with only 2,403 units issued. Additionally, the unoverprinted stamps are likely remainders from that period and are very rare. Only the stamps from consignment 157-1865, of which 100 were issued, are known to be printed on laid paper, with only two examples recorded to date (Pietsch documented just one). Scott 18b (var), $4,500 as an overprinted stamp.
