India Royal Visit 1875-76
1876 Autograph letter, 7 pages, written and initialled "A.E" by Prince Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, on headed notepaper of "H.M.S. Serapis", the ship that conveyed him to and from India for his Royal Visit. He writes to Mrs Simpson, wife of the ADC to the Governor of Bombay while "At Sea" on the return voyage to England. He refers to the heat in the Indian Ocean and Red Sea, and mentions a week spent at Cairo, attending the theatre and an Offenbach opera. Further mention of Malta, his arrival imminently in Gibraltar and having met Sir Bartle Frere in Egypt.
A rare letter written at the conclusion of an historic tour to India. Autograph letters by members of the Royal Family during any royal tour or visit are seldom found.
