India Royal Visit 1875-76
1876 Eight sided autograph letter written by Princess Alexandra, Princess of Wales to Colonel Keppel, on attractive headed notepaper of Marlborough House, asking after his welfare, lamenting the death of a friend and writing "Thank God I have the best possible news from India and today have written my last letter there, the next will be to Aden to meet him on his homeward journey, tho' I do not expect him back till the end of April, which alas to me seems still a long time off". The Prince of Wales was away on his historic visit to India during which Queen Victoria was proclaimed Empress. Together with two hand tinted carte de visite photographs of the Prince and Princess of Wales, with an imprint on the reverse of each - "Souvenir of the Royal Visit to India, 1876" with a central vignette of an elephant surrounded by decorative foliage (3)
