1591 (24 Oct.) entire letter from Jacomo Manucci "To the worshipfull Mr. Philippe Corsiny at his howse by the [conduit] in Gracious Street London", rated "pay the post six pence d6", contents refer to custom dues at Dartmouth being "beyond reason", though "Drake will be here tomorrow, and I shall try to get him to expedite matters" (this likely a reference to Sir Francis Drake, famous Mayor of Plymouth); also the capture by a London ship named "Amitie" of a Spanish ship bound for India named "San Michelle" captained by Francisco Orledar. Particularly fine showing the rate very clearly; an insightful entire and an important early usage of the newly instated 6d. rate from Plymouth. Photo
