The James Song FRPSL Large Gold Medal Collection of The Chin Hills District
After the Japanese occupied Rangoon in March 1942, an emergency mail service was organised by Major A.G. McCall, District Commissioner, Lushai Hills at Aijal.
The postal runners made an eight day journey from Haka, Tiddim and Fort White via Falam to Aijal in Assam and thence to India.
By July stamps overprinted "service"
had become exhausted and ordinary postage stamps overprinted "ohms" by typewriter were approved

1942 (21 Aug.) brown OHMS envelope (252x116mm.) registered to Shillong, bearing KGV 9p. deep green pair and singles (2) with type-written "ohms" (Type 2a) and KGVI 2a. 6p. claret with type-written Type 10 and handstamped in violet, all tied by "aijal" double-ring d.s. and showing provisional registration label (stained by affixative) with arrival datestamp (28.8) on reverse. Extremely rare, the only recorded cover with Chin Hills Official provisional stamps used in Aijal, India. Photo

Note: This must have been a very urgent letter which bypassed the postal system in Falam and was handed over to the runner for Aijal and to be posted from there to Shillong
