Provenance
The Alfred Leonard Fuller of Bath Collection (1870-1941)
Acquired from Messrs Spink & Son, 6 April 1902 - £0.12.6
Spink Numismatic Circular, April 1902 (P.5300, no. 82542 AND 82543*) - "Oxford, 1646, Mm. Plume. Smaller bust, all within the inner circle. HI. R [sic]. (Rev.) Declaration, REL: PRO: | LEG: ANG: | LIB: PAR: [in three lines], above scrolls, but without OX in mono and 3 plumes instead of one plume. Straight line beneath the Declaration, date 1646 (no pellets) beneath. Assignation to this mint somewhat uncertain rare, extremely fine" - £1.0.0
*NB. The clarity of the HIB REX abbreviation upon this coin renders the subsequent transcription error in the Circular rather puzzling. It is likely, that this and the next coin were simply confused when Surgeon Fuller came to review the Spink dealing trays. Unfortunately he was relieved of an additional Halfcrown for the trouble!
