Charles I (1625-1649), Sixpences, Tower (under King) (4), Group D (2), Type 3a, 18 June 1635 - 14 February 1636, (m.m.) • CAROLVS • D .' G .' MA .' BR .' FR .' ET • HI .' REX • smaller fourth crowned and armoured bust left, wearing falling lace collar, VI behind, no inner circle, rev. (m.m.) • CHRISTO • AVSPICE • REGNO • oval garnished shield, no inner circle, scroll-top harp, 2.765g, 3h, m.m. crown (Brooker 618; North 2240; S.2813), minor striking split, and off-struck, otherwise residually lustrous with handsome bluish flaring, fine to very fine / very fine; another, 14 February 1636 - 8 May 1638, larger bust with a flatter crown, 2.793g, 10h, m.m. tun (Brooker 622; North 2241; S.2813), rusty spots in legends, otherwise uniformly cabinet toned and lustrous, a pleasing coin, about very fine; another, Group E, Type 4, Sixpence, 8 May 1638 - 4 July 1639, fifth 'Aberystwyth' bust, rev. square-topped shield over cross moline, 2.614g, 7h, m.m. anchor (Brooker 633/632; North 2242; S.2814), historic scratches in upper field, otherwise uniformly toned, fair / fine; lastly, Group F, 4 July 1639 - 26 June 1640, sixth 'Briot' bust, rev. as last, but larger fleurs to moline, 2.562g, 10h, m.m. triangle (Brooker 644-646; North 2246; S.2817), irregular planchet, with a uniform cabinet tone, with much residual colour and lustre in recesses, a pleasingly bold fine (4)
