Charles I (1625-1649), Group F, Type 4.4, Shillings, Tower (4), under King (2), 26 June 1640 - 15 July 1641, (m.m.) CAROLVS • D .' G .' MAG .' BRI .' FRA .' ET • HI .' REX • sixth crowned and armoured "Briot" bust left, wearing stellate lace collar, XII behind, rev. (m.m.) • CHRISTO • AVSPICE • REGNO • square-topped shield over large cross moline, 5.889g, 1h, m.m. star over triangle on obverse ?] (Brooker 546-548; Sharp G1/2; North 2231; S.2799), residually lustrous, especially so to reverse, otherwise struck details about fine or marginally bolder at peripheries; another, 15 July 1641 - 29 May 1643, as before, 5.561g [85.819grns], 8h, m.m. triangle-in-circle (Brooker 549-550; Sharp G1/2; North 2231; S.2799), traces of double striking resulting in blundered devices, lustrous to reverse, uniformly blue-grey cabinet tone to obverse, bolder than fine; another, (under Parliament), 10 November 1645 - 15 February 1646, as before, rev. bird-headed harp, 5.459g, 11h, m.m. sun [over eye on obverse only] (Hawkins 518; Brooker 560; North 2232; S.2800), struck on a short flan, otherwise lustrous and attractively cabinet toned, very fine or near so, scarce with this overmark; lastly, Group G, Type 4.5, 10 November 1645 - 15 February 1646, seventh bust, 5.529g, 7h, m.m. sun (Hawkins 517; Brooker 564; Sharp H1/1; North 2233; S.2802), heavily clipped, otherwise residually lustrous and darkly toned, struck details almost very fine (4)
