Charles I (1625-1649), Group D, Type 3a, Shilling, 14 February 1636 - 8 May 1638, Tower (under King), (m.m.) • CAROLVS • D .' G .' MA .' BR .' FR .' ET • HI .' REX • fourth crowned and armoured bust left, crown upright, wearing falling lace collar, XII behind, no inner circles, rev. (m.m.) • CHRISTO • AVSPICE • REGNO • oval garnished shield, no inner circles, 5.928g [91.483grns], 2h, m.m. tun (Hawkins 516; Brooker 509-510; Sharp E3/2; North 2225; S.2791), a delightful example, uniformly struck up and residually lustrous with attractive overlying cabinet tone, further accentuated by colourful highlights in reverse legend, almost extremely fine for issue, very rare in this state!
