Charles I (1625-1649), Group D, Type 3b, Welsh 'Plumes' Shilling, 27 June 1634 - 18 June 1635, Tower (under King), (m.m.) • CAROLVS • D .' G .' MA .' BR .' FR .' ET • HI .' REX • fourth crowned and armoured bust left, with two plain arches, wearing falling lace collar, XII behind, no inner circle, rev. CHRISTO • AVSPICE • REGNO •(m.m.)• oval-garnished shield, surmounted by large Plume, larger harp with six strings, no inner circle, 6.016g, 8h, m.m. bell (Hawkins 516; Brooker 491 same obverse die; Sharp E2/3; North 2226; S.2793), a truly remarkable Shilling, richly cabinet toned and residually brilliant with overlying neon blue-orange patination, evidently a carefully prepared Currency piece yet struck with unmistakeable 'Finework' dies, a most pleasing and wholesome extremely fine, very rare
