REX • (m.m.), fourth crowned and armoured bust left, wearing falling lace collar, XII behind, rev. (m.m.) CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO no stops in legend, oval-garnished shield, dividing C-R across field, 5.889g, 4h, m.m. harp (Hawkins 514, Type 3; J F Neck = Webb II, 443 = Sotheby, 26 May 1902, 65 = B W Harris 295 = Ryan 1119 = Brooker 471 same dies; Sharp D1/1; North 2223; S.2789), minor surface marks in otherwise lustrous original fields, with a charming olive grey-green cabinet tone, a bolder very fine, very rare, and variously described as a 'Trial Proof Shilling' by our numismatic forebears; a remarkable piece of Carolean numismatic engineering and artistry
