Charles I (1625-1649), Group III, Type 3a², Halfcrown, 8 May 1638 - 4 July 1639, Tower (under King), (m.m.) • CAROLVS • D .' G .' MA .' BR .' FR .' ET • HI .' REX • third Equestrian Portrait of King trotting left, brandishing upright sword, sash flying behind, no caparison or ground-line, rev. (m.m.) • CHRISTO • AVSPICE • REGNO • larger oval garnished shield, plain harp with six strings, 15.119g, 2h, m.m. upright / prostrate anchor (Brooker 343-344; North 2211; S.2275), beautifully lustrous but struck with the usual errant striking softness to certain features, nevertheless attractively cabinet toned on a broad if slightly irregular flan, a most pleasing very fine
