Charles I (1625-1649), Group III, Type 3a, Crown, 18 June 1635 - 14 February 1636, Tower (under King), (m.m.) • CAROLVS • D .' G .' MAG .' BRI .' FR .' ET • HI .' REX •:• third horseman left, sword upright breaking inner circle, no ground line, rev. -:- (m.m.) -:- CHRISTO • AVSPICE • REGNO, oval garnished shield, plain harp, 29.912g, 5h, m.m. crown [over bell on reverse] (Hawkins 3a; FRC XVI/XX* [Sale, lot 73]; Francis 116 = Lingford 108 = Brooker 258 = Selig 89 = Barr II, 190 = Boismaison 2012 same dies; North 2195; S.2758), some central striking softness, otherwise beautifully struck up for issue, richly and colourfully cabinet toned with sumptuous mint flaring in recesses and to legends, a pleasingly bold very fine, the peripheries extremely fine, very rare, especially in this excellent state and truly much as issued
