Charles I (1625-1649), Group II, Type 2a, Crown, 21 June 1632 - 11 July 1633, Tower (under King), (m.m.) • CAROLVS • D .' G .' MAG .' BRIT .' FRA .' ET • HIB .' REX •:• smaller second horseman left, plume on headdress, sword over right shoulder, cross on housing, no ground line, rev. (m.m.) • CHRISTO •:• AVSPICE •:• REGNO •:• oval garnished shield over cross fourchée, dividing C-R above, scroll-topped harp, 29.859g, 8h, m.m. harp [over rose over plume] / harp (Hawkins 474 [Type 2a]; Francis 19a; FRC X*/XIV [Sale, lot 61]; Brooker 246 same dies; Barr 392; North 2193; S.2755), very faint stress marks in fields and the most minor planchet crimping at 6 o'clock on an otherwise a largely round flan, richly cabinet toned with handsome residual flaring in recesses, a most pleasing very fine / good very fine and superior to the Murdoch plate coin that graced these rooms in May 2022
