Charles I (1625-1649), Group I, Type 1b, Welsh 'Plumes' Crown, 27 April 1627 - 3 July 1628, Tower (under King), (m.m.) CAROLVS D .' G .' MAG .' BRI .' FRA .' ET HIB .' REX, first horseman King on horseback trotting left, plume on head dress and atop ornately decorated caparison, sword over right shoulder only breaking wire line and inner circle, no ground line, rev. CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO (m.m.), no stops in legend, plume above square-topped and garnished shield, bird-headed harp, 30.151g, 7h, m.m. castle (Hawkins 473, Type 1b; FRC VIII/XI [Sale, lot 54]; Brooker 239; Thellusson 211 = Rashleigh [1953], 214 = Graham 129 = Lord Rodney Smith of Marlow = Selig 76 = Rees-Jones 15 = Hulett VI, 386 same dies; North 2191; S.2754), historically pierced and plugged at 6 o'clock, the pyx mark neatly reworked on reverse, lightly cabinet toned, very fine, the die combination with unaltered mint marks excessively rare
