Provenance
The Alfred Leonard Fuller of Bath Collection (1870-1941)
Acquired from Messrs Spink & Son, 1 September 1898 - £0.7.6
Spink Numismatic Circular, September 1898 (P.2984, no. 48086) - "Mm. rose (1605), very fine" - £0.7.6
NB. Despite arriving at Spink's premises on the very date of September's Circular release, no. 48085, a similar piece from the Montagu collection priced at £0.10.0 was unavailable despite being perfectly within Mr Fuller's budget. This provides a wonderful insight into the early collector "buzz" generated by the Numismatic Circular, and perhaps also the now lost art-form of reserving and purchasing by telegram or through Spink's still rather new telephone switchboard!
