William 'the Conqueror' (1066-1087), 'Bonnet' Penny, 1068-1070, York, Hrossketill, PILLEMV REX, crowned and diademed bust facing, with defined 'double-chin', two fillets at side of head, legend around begins at 7 o'clock, rev. + ROSCETEL ON EOF, the S retrograde, cross voided with annulet in centre, pellet between two crescents at each end of limb, pile in each angle within pelleted inner circle, 1.286g [19.846grns], 8h [to i.m.] (Hawkins 234; Rev. G F Crowther, Numismatic Chronicle [Third Series, Volume XI, 1891], Type III; SCBI 21 [Yorkshire], 729-732, same reverse die, and, 733 same dies; North 842; BMC II, 175 same dies; S.1251), some peripheral softness, otherwise a richer cabinet tone, of excellent metal, near very fine, and very scarce, the moneyer known only for this type and the sole issue of Harold Godwinesson
