Auction: 24008 - World Banknotes
Lot: 306
Montrose Bank, Scotland, £1, handwritten date 15th September 1818, serial number 70/122, uniface, handwritten signatures at lower right,
(PMS MO1a for type), annotation at lower left and reverse, three 'PAID' stamps at obverse, good fine. Note this is a £1 with handwritten dates, an unlisted type in the 'Paper Money of Scotland'. First time seen and in excellent condition for a note issued and circulated over 200 years ago. Montrose Bank was opened in 1814 and was taken over 12 years later in 1826 by Dundee Union Bank. Which was then absorbed in 1844 by Western Bank of Scotland but unfortunately, they also collapsed in 1857. Extremely rare
