Henry III (1216-1272), Great Recoinage, 'Voided Long Cross', Penny, 1250-1251, Class IVb, London, Nicole de Sancti Albani, : hENRICVS REX III', commencing at 12 o'clock, larger crowned bust facing, fleur-ends to band, further flanked by pellets, a trio of pellets for central fleur, holding trefoil-tipped sceptre, rev. NICOLE ON LVND, pellet-barred N in LVND, voided long cross, trefoil of pellets in angles, 1.44g, 8h (CT 488; North 990; S.1366), wisps of porosity, and with peripheral striking softness, otherwise uniformly cabinet toned and struck up for type, a most pleasing and bolder very fine, very rare, especially in this presentable state!
