Henry III (1216-1272), 'Short Cross' Penny, c. 1242-1244, Class 8a2, London, Nichole, + hENRICVS REX, tall lettering, new bust facing crowned with sceptre, rev. + NIChOLE ON LVN, taller lettering, short cross voided with quatrefoil in each angle, 1.30g, 2h, i.m. cross pommée (North 981; S.1357A/B), on an irregularly clipped planchet, otherwise lightly field toned, and remarkably uniform and bold for issue, good very fine, rare, especially so in this state!
