Dalnaglar Peer was welped on 29 June 1931 at the Dalnaglar Kennels of Miss Eleanor Christian Sharp of Balmuir, Dundee. The dog was entered for the Inaugural Scottish Kennel Club Exposition at Glasgow on 27-28 February 1935 where over 3,000 exhibitors from over 70 breeds descended on the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow. So fierce was the competition that the recent Crufts winner was relegated to third place. Dalnaglar Peer was recognised at the meet with the Scottish Kennel Club Challenge Certificate (Best Dog and Bitch in Class) and these two prestigious Gold Prize Medals. At the same meet, Dalnaglar Ruth, of the same litter, received the Field Trial Certificate for Best Bitch.

The Dundee Courier (Friday, 6 August 1937, p. 6) noted: "Miss Sharp makes the breeding of Gordon setters a particular hobby, and one of her setters Champion Dalnaglar Peer, has been described as the best Gordon Setter dog of his day. Among the awards she has won with her setters is the cup presented to the Dundee Canine Club by the Dundee Town Council. Miss Sharp also breeds Shetland Ponies and her youngest brother, Mr Ronald Sharp, makes a hobby of breeding labrador retrievers."
