The L'Abbaye Collection: Part Two | Charles II (1660-1685), 'Mule' "Welsh Plumes" Shilling, 1677, CAROLVS • II • - DEI • GRATIA, second laureate and draped bust right, plume below bust, rev. no stop after HIB, crowned shields cruciform, seven strings to harp, interlocking Cs in angles, Garter star at centre, edge obliquely milled, 6h (Pywell-Phillips -; ESC 1051 [R4]; Bull 541 [R4]; S.3378), softly struck on hair and adjustment marks to French shield, otherwise lightly toned and lustrous, with attractive reddish-orange hues in peripheries, a pleasingly good very fine, extremely rare, especially in this exemplary state and far finer than the Lord Hamilton of Dalzell specime!
