The L'Abbaye Collection: Part Two | Charles II (1660-1685), Shilling, 1675 over 4, CAROLVS • II • - DEI • GRATIA, second laureate and draped bust right, no stop before DEI, rev. no stop after HIB, crowned shields cruciform, five strings to harp, interlocking Cs in angles, edge obliquely milled, 6h (Pywell-Phillips 65; Bull 534 [R6]; ESC 1045 [R4]; S.3375), soft strike to portrait, otherwise a wholesome and most cabinet specimen, richly toned and residually lustrous, a really good fine / very fine, an excessively rare overdate, these rooms having offered the only other two available (and notably inferior) specimens at worldwide public auction this millennium!
