The L'Abbaye Collection: Part Two | Charles II (1660-1685), 'Mule' "Welsh Plumes" Shilling, 1674, CAROLVS • II • - DEI • GRATIA, second laureate and draped bust variety right, lower tie turns downwards rev. no stop after HIB, crowned shields cruciform, six strings to harp, interlocking Cs in angles, Plume at centre, edge obliquely milled, 5h (Durlacher 350; Parsons 551b; Pywell-Phillips -; ESC 1041 [R4]; Bull 528 [R4]; S.3377), metal flaws to rim at 12 o'clock, rubbed and haymarked through centre of reverse, otherwise toned, a pleasingly bold fine to approaching very fine in most parts, this evident mule excessively rare and with a further bust variety with the lower tie of the laurel wreath falls straight downwards as opposed to kinking upwards, of additional numismatic intrigue thus
