The L'Abbaye Collection: Part Two | Charles II (1660-1685), Shilling, 1671, CAROLVS • II • - DEI • GRATIA, legend tight to crown of head, second laureate and draped bust right, no stop before DEI, with clear ties to laurel wreath, rev. no stop after HIB, crowned shields cruciform, eight strings to harp, interlocking Cs in angles, edge obliquely milled, 6h (Manville 56 this coin; EMC 107; ESC 1034 [R3]; Bull 518 [R3]; S.3375), on a broad flan, the usual die flaw in first quarter of reverse and a softer strike on the bust, a light even tone on attractive lustrous surfaces, a most pleasing very fine, the reverse approaching extremely fine, an extremely rare variety especially for this highly difficult date and with an esteemed pedigree
