The L'Abbaye Collection: Part Two | Charles II (1660-1685), Royal African Company, 'Elephant' Shilling, 1666, CAROLVS II • - DEI • GRATIA, first laureate and draped bust variety right, elephant below, no stop before DEI, rev. stop after HIB, crowned shields cruciform, five strings to harp, interlocking Cs in angles, edge straight milled, 6h (Woodhouse 321; Lord Hamilton 77; Manville 51; Pywell-Phillips 55; ESC 1026; Bull 507 [R2]; S.3373), light rub to hair, otherwise attractively cabinet toned with bluish-yellow hues, very fine, rare, especially in this presentable state
