G .' ANG .' | FRA .' ET • HIB •' REGINA • (m.m.) • Queen seated on ornamented throne with very fine latice work and pellet backing, holding orb and sceptre, flanked by pillars decorated with annulets and double pellets, Portcullis below atop ornate tressure through which it and only her crown breaks, rev. (m.m.) A • DNO .' FACTV .' EST • ISTVD ET • EST • MIRAB .' IN • OCVLIS • NRS, Royal Shield set atop Tudor Rose, spandrels plain, 15.35g [236.89grns], 8h, m.m. escallop (Holloway 12-16-002 this coin; Brown and Comber -, cf. A11 [Type Id]; Holloway [-]-16; Schneider I, 781 same reverse die; Lockett 4384 same reverse die; North 2003; BMC 1946,1004.642 [Oldroyd] same dies; S.2529), distinctive die flaw at 2 o'clock, with a further hint of doubling in legends, otherwise a beautiful cabinet piece, naturally toned and handsomely uniform, good very fine, seldom encountered in such a wholesome and presentable grade, the die pairing excessively rare, one of only two documented by Holloway, the other bequeathed to the British Museum in 1946, in NGC holder, graded MS61 (Cert. #6769535-001)
