(x) A 1966 A.F.C. group of three awarded to Flight Lieutenant A. E. G. Abczynski, Royal Air Force, a Polish airman who flew during the Second World War

Air Force Cross, E.II.R., reverse officially dated 1966; General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Malaya (Flt. Lt. A. E. G. Abczynski. R.A.F.); General Service 1962-2007, 1 clasp, Malay Peninsula (Flt. Lt. A. E. G. Abczynski R.A.F.), good very fine (3)

A.F.C. London Gazette 11 June 1966.

Andrzej Emil Gabriel Abczynski was born in Warsaw, Poland on 17 August 1920, the son of Colonel Henryk Abczynski, who was Deputy Head of the Aviation Command of Military Affairs. Both father and son escaped to the United Kingdom following the German invasion and young Andrzej is believed to have served in No. 304 (Silesian) Squadron during the Second World War.

More certain is the fact he was granted British citizenship in 1950, the same year in which he was commissioned as a Flying Officer. Having then been advanced to Flight Lieutenant in November 1953, he witnessed active service in the Malaya Emergency and, later still, in the Malay Peninsula. The qualifying period for the latter clasp was August 1964-August 1966, which likely places his A.F.C. within the realms of an operational award.

On being placed on the Retired List at his own request in April 1968, Abczynski changed his name by Deed Poll to Andrew Emil Gabriel De Rosbourg. He died in London in December 2014; sold with copied research.
