M.B.E. London Gazette 2 January 1939.
Cyril George Saunders was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk on 24 September 1897 and served as a Driver in the Royal Field Artillery towards the end of the Great War. Demobilised in July 1919, he re-enlisted in the Gunners (Territorials) in May 1920 and went on to enjoy a long and distinguished career.
Awarded his T.E.M. in AO 300 of 1927 and the Coronation Medal in 1937 - the official roll refers - he added the M.B.E. to his accolades services as a Battery Sergeant-Major in 63rd (6th London) Field Brigade, R.A. (Territorials) in January 1939. The latter distinction likely reflected his work in overseeing the unit's conversion to an anti-tank role and he was likely present during its deployment to the B.E.F. in France in November 1939-June 1940.
Having then been awarded the Efficiency Medal in AO 156 of 1940, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in January 1941 and advanced to Captain in November 1950. He finally relinquished his commission in March 1956, when he was granted the honorary rank of Major; sold with copied research.
