The Naval General Service Medal awarded to Able Seaman N. Pritt, who was killed aboard Exmoor when she was attacked and sunk off Lowestoft by German E-boats in 1941

Naval General Service 1915-62, 1 clasp, Palestine 1936-1939 (JX. 141279 N. Pritt. Ord. Smn. R.N.), about extremely fine

Norman Pritt, aged 21 and of Mursley in Buckinghamshire, was a member of the ships' company of the Hunt-class destroyer H.M.S. Exmoor when, on 25 February 1941, she and the sloop H.M.S. Shearwater were attacked by German E-boats whilst escorting a convoy of merchant vessels from the Thames estuary to Methil. Hit aft by a torpedo during the engagement, major structural damage was sustained and a rapidly-spreading fire hampered damage-control efforts. Exmoor capsized and sank in ten minutes, with the survivors being picked up by Shearwater and the trawler Commander Evans before being taken to Great Yarmouth. Pritt was not amongst those rescued and is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
