The Crimea Medal awarded to Private D. Purcell, 11th (Prince Albert's Own) Hussars, who was killed in the charge at Balaklava

David Purcell was born in London and enlisted originally into the 3rd Light Dragoons in London on 16 August 1849, regimental No. 1924. He served with the regiment in India for a period, before transferring to the 11th Hussars on 1 July 1853.

David Purcell embarked with the 11th Hussars for the Crimea and was killed in action at Balaklava, 25 October 1854.
