Bhakta Gurung was born in 1915 and joined the Indian Army on 21 November 1934 serving with them until 31 December 1947. Entering service with the 2/2 Gurkha Rifles on 1 January 1948, Gurung continued to serve in India until 23 October 1948 before seeing service in Malaya between 24 October 1948 and 21 November 1949. His subsequent service saw him in Calcutta and Singapore until he was discharged on 14 January 1956; sold together with note from Major G. H. Ashley OIC Records Brigade of Gurkhas confirming medal entitlement with the service number given here, as well as photocopied service records from Gurkha records.
