South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879 (2235. Pte. A.E. Edmonds. 17th. D.C.O. Lrs.), very lightly polished, otherwise very fine

A. E. Edmonds is confirmed upon the Roll with entitlement to this medal and clasp; the 17th (Duke of Cambridge's Own) Lancers played a decisive part in the Battle of Ulundi (4 July 1879), when they made a devastating charge against the wavering Zulu army - this attack routed their opponents and brought about the swift conclusion of the battle.
