South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1877-8-9 (1538, Lce. Corpl J. Tarbuck, 1/24th Foot), suspension sometime re-affixed, brooch marks to obverse, naming clear and unaffected, nearly very fine

John Tarbuck attested for service with the 1st Battalion 24th (The 2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot at Westminster, London on 8 May 1868 at the age of 18. By 1871 he is noted as being stationed on Malta with the Battalion, and was promoted to Corporal on 13 November 1877. Tarbuck is listed as Killed in Action on 22 January 1879, along with hundreds of his comrades when the British camp at Isandlwana was wiped out by an overwhelming force of Zulu warriors.
