The early-19th Century officer's sword carried by Lieutenant-Colonel H. Alexander, who served as a subaltern with the 28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot during the Peninsular War and was wounded at the Battle of Vittoria, a privately-purchased example of the style most associated with officers of the Light Company of an infantry battalion, with a sharply curved, unmarked blade, this etched with foliate decoration, a representation of Britannia and Georgian coat-of-arms, steel guard with leather grip bound in silver wire, together with its original steel scabbard, 810mm, some traces of gilding remaining to blade, slight areas of surface rust, otherwise in fair condition for age; the scabbard missing one ring and the lower portion in relic condition (2)
