Lot: 55

(x) Imperial Bank, Kingdom of Persia, 1 Toman, Kermanshah, 26th January 1931, serial number A/AB 085766, the 2nd Series 1 Toman from Kermanshah. Nestled strategically at the crossroads of trade and culture, Kermanshah is adorned with a rich cultural heritage. Kermanshah held political significance as a focal point for negotiations and border disputes, particularly with the Ottoman Empire, owing to its strategic location along Iran's western border.
The dawn of the 20th century witnessed Kermanshah's exploration of potential oil reserves, marking its entry into the global oil industry a move that would ripple through Iran's history with profound consequences.
This 2nd series 1 Toman banknote features Naser al-din Shah's portrait on the left side of the note, a distinctive trait not found elsewhere. Additionally, these banknotes incorporate a watermark featuring the lion and sun emblem, which serves to bolster their security.
Distinguished from its counterparts of the 1st series, this banknote displays vibrant colours on its reverse and was printed by Waterlow and Sons, a departure from the customary printer, Bradbury Wilkinson. The reverse is black, pink, and green with an image of Shah Muzzafar-al-Din, the prominent value, and a 'PAYABLE AT KERMANSHAH' handstamp.
The reverse is adorned in hues of pink and green. Here, a unique double lower letter Prefix serial number, A/AB 085766, with both the Serial number and Prefix printed in green, adds to its distinctive character.
Dated 26th January 1931, this banknote is a rarity. Serial numbers printed in colours other than black or red are exceptionally scarce, further emphasising its allure to collectors
