Great Britain: Weldons Limited, £1 ordinary shares, 18[98], #4106, signed by George Newnes as director, vignettes of the company's two office buildings, ornate border, green. Walter Weldon, 1832-1885, started his publications of needlework and fashion, Weldons Ladies' Journal and a huge range of dressmaking patterns in the 1880's. This company was part of the Newnes publishing empire. Sir George Newnes, 1851 - 1910, said to be the father of popular journalism, founder of Tit Bits and Country Life among others. VF.
