1945 (1 Sep.) incoming mail from Italy to Rhodes bearing R.S.I. Italian stamps for 1l. The Italian postal authority consider still valid the internal rate of 1l. but on arrival (3.12) the cover was taxed by postage due stamps 3d. violet (2), double of the amount due; alongside censor cachet and label. A small part of the envelope missing at top left. A very rare taxed cover. Sirotti certificate (2005). illustrated on Sirotti-Taroni "Le Occupazioni britanniche delle colonie italiane 1941-1950", page 347, ill.377 . Sassone €25,000.
