Volunteer Force Long Service (India & the Colonies), E.VII.R. (Lieut. A. J. N. Lowther E.I. Ry. Voltr.), very fine

Arthur John Newton Lowther was born in Bengal, India on 10 May 1863 and married Annie Moore at Rawulapalli on 4 June 1889. The next year his son Ernest Herbert Newton Lowther was born at Lahore; he was to become a well-known ornithologist, expert on Indian birdlife and a pioneer of bird photography. Both Lowther and his son worked on the East India Railway, but it was not until 1900 that he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant. Advanced to Lieutenant in 1903, during his career Lowther was stationed at Cawnpore and Dunapore; sold together with Handwritten research.
