(x) Army L.S. & G.C., W.IV.R, with Royal Arms and badge of Hanover, fitted with small replacement suspension ring (J. Bowles, Color Serjt. 18th Regiment Foot. 1833.), very fine
James Bowles was born in Aughery, County Fermanagh, Ireland and prior to military service was a weaver. Attesting into the 18th Foot at Athlone on 13 July 1809, aged 29 with the regimental number 27, he was promoted Corporal on 25 October 1810. Further advanced Sergeant on 25 September 1812, he saw service in Malta and the Ionian Islands for a total of four years and ten months. Bowles was finally discharged due to poor eyesight and being unfit for military service on 12 March 1833.
