(x) Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (345301. C. R. Holmes, Blkth. H.M.S. Furious) very fine

Charles Richard Holmes was born on 15 April 1881 at Portsmouth, Hampshire and was a Blacksmith by Trade. He joined the Royal Navy on 13 June 1902, with the rank of Blacksmith, for a period of 12 years which was further extended until 1924. He served on Victory 2 at the outbreak of the Great War until the 25 June 1917 when he transferred to Furious where he remained for the rest of his wartime service, during his service on Furious he was awarded his L.S. & G.C. on 25 July 1917. He completed his service on 13 June 1924 with the rank of Chief Blacksmith.
