Russell Eugene Currie was born on 16 November 1920 at Nortondale, York County, Canada. Working as a woodsman he lived at Millville York County and enlisted at Fredericton on 21 March 1943 being posted to the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. Arriving in Britain on 28 August 1943 he was to serve there for almost a year before entering the war in France on 19 June 1944, just two weeks after D-Day. Posted first to No. 8 Canadian General Hospital he later joined the 9th Canadian Field Ambulance and finally returned to Britain on 21 August 1945. His duties here are listed as
'Took Infantry training and went overseas Aug 43 as a medical corps reinforcement. Was employed as hospital orderly in England, France (Jul 44), Belgium, Holland and Germany.
Returning to Canada Currie was demobilised on 3 June 1946. This was not to be the last time he served however, rejoining the army on February 1952 with the R.C.A.M.C. Completing a stretcher bearer's course on 6 December 1952 Currie was posted to the 4th Battalion, Canadian Guard son 23 December 1953. With this unit he was posted to Korea on 15 April 1954, serving there until 26 November. Remaining with the Guards he continued to serve until 31 March 1955 when he was honourably released from service; sold together with copied attestation, service and discharge papers as well as an original cap badge.
