William Mooney was born at Whitehaven, Cumberland on 19 April 1908. Serving with the Border Regiment, he was taken a Prisoner of War during the Battle of France in 1940 and was held as a Prisoner of War in Germany, including at Hohenfels Camp in the Rhineland. Returned home, he died at Whitehaven on 8 March 1997.
